Step-by-step installation guide
Follow these steps to install Notara on your Android device. Your entries stay on your phone — not on our servers.
Installing outside Google Play Store
Android will ask you to allow installation from "unknown sources." This is normal when sideloading. The APK is served from the same publisher endpoint as our other Android app builds.

Installation steps
Enable Installation from Unknown Sources
Android requires you to allow installation from sources other than the Play Store for security reasons.
- Open Settings on your Android device
- Tap on 'Security' or 'Privacy' (varies by device)
- Look for 'Install unknown apps' or 'Unknown sources'
- Select your browser (Chrome, Firefox, etc.)
- Toggle 'Allow from this source' to ON
Download the APK File
Download the Notara APK file directly to your device.
- Click the download button below
- Wait for the download to complete
- You'll see a notification when it's ready
Install the App
Open the downloaded file and follow the installation prompts.
- Open your device's Downloads folder or notification
- Tap on the Notara APK file
- Review the app permissions if prompted
- Tap 'Install'
- Wait for installation to complete
Launch Notara
Once installed, you can find Notara in your app drawer.
- Open your app drawer
- Find and tap the Notara icon
- Start documenting on your terms
Important information
Privacy-first
Your incident documentation stays on your device. No Notara account, no cloud sync built into the app.
Safe installation
The APK is distributed from the same source as our other Android builds. Installing outside the Play Store uses Android’s standard sideload flow.
Sensitive by design
Notara is built for records you may rely on later. Protect your device with a lock screen and use the in-app passcode when you need an extra layer.
Your records stay with you
Notara is offline-first by design. What you enter is stored locally unless you export or share it yourself.
Troubleshooting
Installation blocked
Make sure you've enabled 'Install unknown apps' for your browser in Android Settings > Security/Privacy.
Download not starting
Try using a different browser or check your internet connection. Chrome, Firefox, and Samsung Internet usually work well.
Installation fails
Ensure you have enough free storage (the APK is large—about 125 MB plus space for installation). Try downloading again if needed.
Can't find the downloaded file
Check your Downloads folder in your file manager, or open your browser's download history.
